Friday, April 23rd, 2010The 5th AZ International Open of BJJ will be on TV for the first time in Arizona! On Saturday, April 24th, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm, and on Sunday, April 25th from 4:00 to 4:30 pm, the tournament will be featured on Cox Cable Channel 7, which can reach 929,186 Households in Phoenix and Tucson. The TV Show is being produced by our head sponsor Many Weapons, and it will feature interviews, Highlights of the competition, and more. Don’t forget to set your DVR!
4 New Black Belts in AZ
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010The state of Arizona has 4 new Black Belts. Two 2009 AZ State Champions got promoted, Bob Merriman (Gustavo Dantas), and Ryan Beauregard (Demetrius Ramos). Bob Merriman has been training with Gustavo for the past 10 years, becoming GD’s 6th Black Belt, and Ryan Beauregard became Demetrius Ramos’ first Black Belt. Ryan has just taken 3rd place at the 2010 Pan Jiu-Jitsu. Another promotion came from Primero BJJ in Tucson, Rick Bueno and the Southwest Classic Champion Brian Ogule. Rick and Brian got promoted by Master Pedro Sauer.

Aaron Simpson takedown Seminar

Professor Alvaro Mansor, 4th Degree Black Belt and the Director of Referees for the Confederation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, will be giving a seminar on the interpretation and application of the Official IBJJF Standard Rules for Jiu-Jitsu matches. The seminar will be open to all belt levels and is a great opportunity to get perspective on the judging process of IBJJF Referees. The fee for the seminar is $50 and all participants will receive an Official IBJJF Referee Course Completion Certificate at the end of the seminar.
